1 full-height piece(s) per 96-inch board; 32 boards for 32 slats. Kerf 0 in between pieces only. No end trimming, defects, spare stock, or ripping from wide boards included.

How the 12-foot pattern fits

The measured wall is 144 inches wide. Each slat occupies 2.5 inches across that span. The 2-inch target is the maximum clear opening, so the selected count rounds upward to 32 whole strips. Those strips cover 80 inches of wall width. The remaining 64 inches are shared across 33 equal spaces: the interior openings and two outside margins.

Count = ceil((144 − 2) / (2.5 + 2)) = 32
Clear gap = (144 − 32 × 2.5) / 33 = 1.939 in
Pitch = 2.5 + 1.939 = 4.439 in

Slat 1 starts at 1.939 in (≈ 1 15/16″); the final slat starts at 139.561 in (≈ 139 9/16″). Its right edge reaches 142.061 in (≈ 142 1/16″), leaving 1.939 in (≈ 1 15/16″) before the right boundary. Every start uses the same origin. The center of the wall at 72 in (≈ 72″) falls in the central opening. Use the table to check that relationship against the furniture or object you want to center.

Compare flush ends before choosing

Switching this span to flush end slats selects 33 strips. Interior openings then measure 1.922 in (≈ 1 15/16″), and the two outside margins become zero. The material total at the same cut height becomes 264 feet. This alternative changes the boundary rule and the position marks, so use a newly calculated table if you adopt it. If you already have a specific count, open the calculator and switch to count mode rather than treating the target as exact spacing.

Cut length and stock capacity

At 96 inches per strip, 32 strips need 3072 inches, or 256 linear feet. With zero kerf and no end trimming, a 96-inch stock board supplies 1 complete pieces at this height. The resulting estimate is 32 boards already matching the specified 2.5-inch face width. This excludes ripping from a wider plank, damaged stock, spare boards, backing, and rails.

Enter a real saw kerf before ordering. If two or more pieces appear to fit exactly, even a small cutting loss can reduce the capacity by one. Measure the usable ends and plan individual cuts. Short leftover pieces are not counted as full-height strips. If your wall has a sill or slope, use separate cut-length groups instead of assuming the height here applies everywhere.

Check the actual wall

Put tape at several of the listed starts, including the first and last, and compare the visible margins. Fractions round independently to 1/16 inch; do not repeatedly add a rounded gap. Check the span at multiple heights and inspect outlet cover plates and casing against both edges of each strip. The calculator does not move individual slats around obstacles or establish installation requirements.
